Understanding standard vehicle registration
All vehicles in Singapore must be registered with LTA and have their licence plates prominently displayed before they can be driven on public roads.
From 2025, new registrations of diesel-only cars and taxis will no longer be permitted. New registrations of diesel-hybrid cars and taxis will still be permitted. Renewal of COEs for existing diesel-only cars will still be permitted.
From 2030, all new registrations of cars and taxis must be of cleaner energy models (e.g. electric, hybrid). Renewal of COEs for all existing cars will still be permitted.
Understanding off-peak car schemes
There are 3 types of off-peak car schemes — Weekend Car (WEC), Off-Peak Car (OPC) and Revised Off-Peak Car (ROPC). Currently, cars can only be registered as a ROPC or be converted to the ROPC scheme. Cars under the WEC Scheme and OPC scheme will remain in their schemes unless they are converted to the ROPC scheme.
One of the main differences among the schemes is the restriction on usage hours.
Check which scheme your car is registered under by logging in with your Singpass.
Understanding the Vintage Vehicle Schemes
Vintage vehicles are well-preserved, heritage-rich cars, motorcycles or scooters manufactured before 1 January 1940.
You can import and register a vintage car, motorcycle or scooter to be used in Singapore under the Vintage Vehicle Schemes.
There are 3 types of Vintage Vehicle Schemes for cars, and also for motorcycles and scooters. Each has different features. Some schemes have 2 modes – the ownership of the vehicle can be transferred, or cannot be transferred. Check the table below for details.
Understanding the Classic Vehicle Scheme
You can import and register a classic car, motorcycle or scooter for use in Singapore under the Classic Vehicle Scheme.
Classic vehicles must be at least 35 years old from their original registration date. Older cars, motorcycles and scooters manufactured before 1 January 1940 are classified under the Vintage Vehicle Scheme. See the table below for more details on the Classic Vehicle Scheme.
From 2025, new registrations of diesel-only cars and taxis will no longer be permitted. From 2030, all new registrations of cars and taxis must be of cleaner energy models (e.g. electric, hybrid). The restrictions will not apply to the import and registration of cars under the Classic Vehicle Scheme.
